DALE POPE

Funeral services for Dale Pope took place Saturday, Dec. 5, 2020 at 3 p.m. at Cowboy Heritage Church of Freestone County, 309 US HWY 84W, Teague. Bro. Jimmy Cotton will officiate.

Mr. Pope passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2020 at his residence in Teague.

Dale Pope was born April 23, 1929 in Pyburn Community, Freestone County to parents, John William and Tillie Belle Burnham Pope.

He grew up and attended school in Teague and other schools in the surrounding area.

He married Thelma Davis on Jan. 3, 1959 and they share over 61 years together. Over the years Mr. Pope worked for Brown & Root as a journeyman, Teague Brick & Tile, Mexia Textile Mill, and lastly Freestone County Pct. 2 Maintenance Dept. where he retired.

Dale accepted Jesus as his Savior at a young age.

He loved church, his church family and worked at the church when he was needed.

He was survived by his wife, Thelma Davis Pope; one son, Tommy Glenn Pope and wife Lisa; daughter-in-law, Allison Claye Pope; five grandchildren, Howard Dale “Rooster” Pope, Jr. and wife Heidi, Bradley Ezell and wife Jessica, Heather Idlett and husband Steve, Jordan Ezell, and Katie Pope; five great-grandchildren, Kaliyah Pope, Brynlee Ezell, Jase Ezell, Colton Edmonds and wife Mariah, Ryan Edmonds and wife Loren; two great-grandchildren, Taytum Edmonds, and Finley Idlett (on the way); numerous other relatives; dear friend, Althea Jones; and his fur babies, Nat Pope and Lulu Pope.

Mr. Pope was preceded in death by his son, Howard Dale Pope, Sr.; one grandson, Cody Dale Pope; his parents, John William and Tillie Belle Burnham Pope; his brothers, J. D. Pope and J. W. Pope; and his sisters, Juanita Pope Rikard and Thelma Lou Pope.
