CLEO J. PHILIPS

Cleo Phillips, 79, of Spencer, OK passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, on September 13, 2020. He was born to the late Sim and Julia Phillips in Teague, Texas. Cleo resided in Oklahoma since 1971. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Teague, TX and received his Bachelor and his Master of Education degrees from Central State University, Edmond, OK. Cleo retired from the Oklahoma City Public School System after 20 years of service. He was also a professional truck driver, worked in law enforcement/security, and as a gospel preacher. He loved reading, traveling, RVing, gardening, HO model trains, and bird watching, but his real passion was teaching and preaching the Gospel of Christ. Cleo loved his community and was responsible for the Furney Richardson Historical Marker being erected on the campus; and for the US and Texas Flags that now fly on the campus. He also painted the flag pole and the rustic swing frame the color silver, just to keep the campus attractive and alive. Cleo and Roy Clemons replaced the large gate at Grove Island Memorial Cemetery in the Furney Richardson community, which Cleo continued to repaint and keep in good condition. He will be missed. Cleo was preceded in death by his siblings: Lucille McWilliams, Joyce Busby, Donnell Phillips, Zeffer Lee Demus, S.M. Phillips and Annie Mae Flewellen. He is survived by his wife of nearly 56 years, Mary Phillips, one son Czerny Phillips and one daughter Meidra Phillips, all from Spencer, Oklahoma; one granddaughter, Ashley Phillips of Pasadena, CA; and one grandson, Isiah Phillips of Spencer, Oklahoma. Two brothers-in-law, Adam Henderson and wife (Rosie)of Dallas,Tx; and Willie Clyde Henderson of Rice, Tx.; One sister-in-law, Allyne Barner and husband (Reggie)of New Orleans, La. A host of nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held Saturday, September 19, 2020 at Eastside Church of Christ, 916 S. Douglas Blvd, Midwest City, OK 73130 and was live streamed at www. eastsidechurchofchrist.org. Chris Maxwell gave the Eulogy. Services were handled by:
