Clark C. Compton

Former Teague resident Clark C. Compton, businessman, educator, and civic leader in Ellisville, Mo., died Monday, Dec. 3 2018 at his home after suffering from COPD for many years.

Mr. Compton was born in Teague Dec. 10, 1931, and died just a week short of his 87th birthday.

The son of Robert (Bob) and Doris Compton, he grew up in Teague, attending O.M. Roberts Elementary School and graduating from Teague High School in 1949, where he was a three-year football letterman at guard, and played the tuba in the high school band.

During his high school years, he worked with his father, who managed the South Texas Lumber Co., and for the B-RI railroad, and the Teague brick plant.

He attended Sam Houston State College before joining the U.S. Air Force in 1951 during the Korean War, where he served at air bases, mostly in Europe.

He took great pride in his Texas heritage as a fourth generation Texan whose great-grandparents in the 1850s were among the first settlers in the community later to be known as Dew, and where his ashes will be interred in the family plot at the Dew Cemetery.

After discharge from the Air Force, he returned to civilian life and married Faye Stone of Fairfield in June, 1958, and entered North Texas State College, now the University of North Texas, where he earned a degree in business. He and Faye celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last June, a few months before her death in September.

Mr. Compton worked for many years in the aluminum industry, moving around the country from Dallas, Wichita, Kan., Florence, Ala., and the St. Louis, Mo. area. In 1970 the family settled in Ellisville where he served for several years as an adjunct professor of business at the University of Missouri, St, Louis. He was active in Ellisville civic affairs, serving for three terms on the city council.

A proud father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he is survived by daughters Cameron Tow (Joe) of St. Louis, Mo. and Cathi Chandler (J.C.) of Maryland Heights; son, Rob Compton (Megan) of Ellisville; granddaughters Andrea Turner of Bellville Ill., Kelsey Aulgur of Ellisville, Tara Chandler of Maryland Heights, and grandson Keith Compton, a great-granddaughter, Zoe Turner, of Ellisville., and a brother, Robert Compton Jr.of Garland.
