Clara Evaughn Cox
Clara Evaughn Cox was born on Nove. 2, 1930, in Freestone to Bill Early and Emma Mae (Beasley) Bodine. She went home to her heavenly father on Sept. 17, 2024, at the age of 93. Clara passed away peacefully at her residence with her family present.
Evaughn was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved life and friends. Evaughn retired after 27 years working for Doctors Gage, Cox and Halbert. She loved everyone that came into the office and treated them with special care. Her hobbies included sewing and quilting along with her flower beds at her residence. She was an avid quilt-maker and made quilts for every member of her family. Evaughn also made bean bags in all different sizes and donated them to McClanes Children Hospital in Temple to the NICU unit. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels, PTA, den mother for Boy Scouts, Little League baseball, and Band Boosters.
Evaughn always greeted everyone with “Morning” no matter what time of day it was. When she was asked why she always said “Morning,” she told them she was just getting an early start for tomorrow. Evaughn always had a smile on her face when you would meet her. Evaughn attended Teague High and was with the Class of 1949. Evaughn married Abe Cox Jr. on May 16,1952.
Evaughn and Abe had three sons, Ernest Wayne Cox and wife Pam of Cat Springs, Max Stevens Cox and wife Jamie of Hockley, and Dennis Neal Cox and wife Debbie of Teague; six grandsons and one granddaughter, Kyle Cox and wife Katie of San Antonio, Bradly Cox and wife Mechelle of Teague, Jeremy Cox and wife Nicole of Dallas, Cory Cox and wife Christy of Cat Springs, Trent Cox of Bryan, Casey Cox and wife Natalie of Huntsville, Kelsie Austin and husband Quinton of College Station; along with 10 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and one brother, Sammie Bolin Bodine.
Evaughn was preceded in death by her husband, Abe Cox Jr., and her parents: father, Bill Early and mother, Emma Mae (Beasley) Bodine and husband Sam, along with several brothers and sisters from the Bodine family.
