Billy Roy Dawson, 83, of Dew, passed away Sunday, April 27, peacefully in his home, with his wife and daughters at his bedside.

Billy Roy married his beautiful bride, Alice Fay Price on July 12, 1957, at the age of 15. They shared 67 years building a life together filled with countless memories that his family will cherish forever.

Billy Roy was a member of the Lanely Methodist Church most of his life. He later went on to lead Sunday morning worship at the Cowboy Heritage Church of Freestone County for 6 years, Wednesday night worship at Cedar Stone and was part of the worship team at Freestone Cowboy Church until COVID hit.

Billy Roy had a love for music at an early age, receiving his first guitar at the age of 4, and playing his first song at the age of 5 or 6. There wasn’t an instrument he couldn’t play, but he is mostly remembered for his guitar skills and tinkling the piano keys. No matter where he went, if there was a piano there, he was asked to play and he always obliged. His parents paid for music lessons, but after several lessons the teacher gave up and told his mother that she couldn’t teach him because he had his own way of playing. In his early adult years, he had an opportunity to travel and play with a band, but he chose to stay home and raise his family instead. Family was very important to him.
