BILLY RAY VESTAL

Billy Ray Vestal, 84, of Fairfield, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2019, in Waco. Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at Calvary Baptist Church with Brother James Schoenrock, Brother Terry Skinner, Brother Paul Gauntt and Brother Jason Aultman officiating. Interment followed at Fairfield Cemetery. Pallbearers were Barry Capps, Gene Chavers, Mark Chavers, Marvin Mullen, John David Aultman and Kerry Don Jones. Honorary bearers were Charles Easterwood, Lindale Phillips, Clois Mullen, Marles Pace, Glendale Black and Roy Casey Jr.

Mr. Vestal was born Jan. 20, 1935, in Teague, to parents Henry Ray and Audra Mae Aultman Vestal. In June of 1954 he began his banking career at Fairfield State Bank. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 until 1960 returning then to the bank. When he left the bank, he was employed with Freestone County, Precinct 1. He married Bettie Lou Jones on April 16, 1960, in Fairfield and she preceded him in death Dec. 8, 2004. He was a lifetime member of Calvary Baptist Church and a lifetime cattle rancher. He was a longtime member of the Fairfield Lions Club, a past board member of the Freestone County Soil & Water Conservation District, past board member of the Mary Moody Northern Municipal Library in Fairfield and past member of the Farm Bureau Board of Directors. He served on the Freestone County Fair Commission in the 1960’s and was treasurer.

Left to cherish his memory are three daughters, Belinda Lou Griffin and husband Ernest of Fairfield, Brenda Mae Klepper and husband Greg of Elm Mott, and Bonnie Sue George and husband Robert of Fairfield; six grandchildren, Amanda Mae Griffin, Emily Lou Sparks and husband Colin Ray Sparks Sr., Stacy Rae Griffin, Hannah Elizabeth Klepper, Haley Elaine Klepper and Bethany Anne George; three great-grandchildren, Colin Ray Sparks Jr., Corbet Lamar Sparks and Colton Walter Sparks.
