Bill Whitson, 89, of Fairfield, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, at his residence. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14 at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Richard Heyduck officiating. Interment with military honors followed at Fairfield Cemetery. Bill was born Oct. 18, 1928 in Wichita Falls to parents John and Willie Mae Putnam Whitson. He was a graduate of Wichita Falls High School and attended Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls. Whitson was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy and served aboard the destroyer USS Benner DD-807. He married Beverly Ann Whitson on Aug. 15, 1960 and she preceded him in death on April 22, 2002. Bill and Ann came to Fairfield in 1971 from Colorado City. He was a retired power plant operator and worked in that field for over 40 years. He was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Fairfield. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a son, Gary Wayne Whitson in March of 2011; a brother, John Whitson; two sisters, Elizabeth Yost and Ruth Roach. Left to cherish his memory are four children, Billy Whitson and wife Brenda; Tim Whitson and wife Dee; Tom Whitson; Christi Mc-Cloud and husband Chris; sister Dorothy Whitson Gregory; grandchildren, Abby Warren and husband Phil; Ashley Whitson; Sawyer Shamburger and husband Cory; Riley Whitson; Slade McCloud and Cage McCloud; great-grandchildren, Ross, Bailey and Hannah Warren.
