Betty J. Alewine

Betty J. Alewine was born in Galveston on Sept. 23, 1932, to George Raymond and Ruth Elaine (Burney) Mulcahy. Betty Jo graduated from Teague High School on May 29, 1951. She was married to Tillman West Conovan, from 1953 to 1970, and together they had three children, Sharon Jeane Gregory, Jefferson Raymond Conovan and Kimberly Ruth Conovan. She became Betty J. Alewine in May 1984, when she married Bennie L. Alewine. Betty J. Alewine passed away peacefully on Aug. 27, 2022, at the home of her daughter, Sherri and husband, Mike Gregory, in Teague. Betty J. Alewine lived a strong spiritual life. She had magnificent work ethics and loved God, her family and friends. She had a sweet, loving and kind soul. She loved playing and beating you at canasta. She enjoyed trips to the casino, the Cowboys, Texas Rangers and the Mavericks and had a T-shirt for every game, depending on the team, that she wore as she sat and watched “her team” games on television. Betty Jo loved Homecoming, seeing all her classmates and riding the floats. After retirement in 1992, she pursued her love for antiques, owning Fairfield Antique Mall and then Parker Square Mall, both in Fairfield.

She is survived by her three children, Sherri Gregory and husband Mike of Teague; Jeff Conovan and wife Lois of Georgetown; and Kim Conovan of Teague; also, eight grandchildren, Chris Harvick and husband Danny of Teague, Willie Bain of Fairfield, Wendy Bain of Teague, Keith Missildine and wife Juliette of Slocum, Kristi Roberts and husband Carl Lee of Tennessee Colony, Samantha McAlpine of Teague, Cash Conovan and wife Mary of Georgetown, Courtney Conovan of Los Angeles, CA; several Great-Grandchildren and Great-Great-Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by father, George R. Mulcahy; mother, Ruth E. Mulcahy; brother, George Mulcahy, Jr.; sister, Jeane Carroll; grandson, Lee Missildine; and husband, Bennie L. Alewine. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2022, at the First United Methodist Church in Teague, with the Rev. Jeff Craft officiating and eulogy by Marty Walker. Visitation with the family was prior to the service beginning at 1:30 p.m. Interment followed in the Greenwood Cemetery. Cash Conovan, Keith Missildine, Carl Lee Roberts, Greg Davis, Jaylon Davis, and Landon Villa served as pallbearers.
