Berle George

Funeral services for Berle George will be held Tuesday morning April 18, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the Teague Church of Christ officiated by her son Richard George. Interment will follow the services at George Cemetery at Clay Hill.

Visitation will be held on Monday with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague.

Berle LaRue Hughes George, widow of Johnnie T. George Sr., passed away early Friday morning April 14, 2023, at the age of 94. Berle was born in Dallas and lived there until her marriage to Johnnie in 1940.

During their married life, they lived in Dallas, Donie, and several areas of Houston where Johnnie worked at the Champion Paper Mill. After Johnnie’s early retirement due to his health, they moved to Clay Hill and then to Teague.

Berle and Johnnie were members of the Teague Church of Christ.

Berle was preceded in death by her husband Johnnie Therris George Sr.; her parents Willis Burl and Hattie Hughes; her half-sister G eorge Selma Parker, her sister Mary Alice Wallace, her brother Dr. Charles Hughes, a grand-daughter Tammy April George, her son Kerry Neal George Sr., and a grandson Dustin Cody George.

Berle is survived by four of her children and their spouses: Johnnie Therris George Jr. and wife Phyllis of Lexington; Richard Dale George and wife Margaret of Normangee; Joe Bob George of Crosby, Gloria LaRue and husband Randy Barger of Teague; 32 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, 33 great-great grandchildren, 11 great-greatgreat grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
