Arthur Patrick ‘Pat’ Utsey

Arthur Patrick “Pat” Utsey, born in Houston on June 18, 1943, died peacefully at home in Albuquerque, N.M., on Nov. 25, 2019, at age 76.

He was the son of Elmer Eugene Utsey (deceased) and Florence “Estelle” Webb Utsey (deceased), He was raised in Teague, with siblings Betty Ann Utsey Cox Turner (deceased), Judith “Dane” Utsey Maldonado, Hazel “Vernell” Utsey Lee, Linden Neale “Lin” Utsey, Jean Carol Utsey Wragge and David Elmer Utsey.

He is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Muriel “Jane” Wood Utsey; children Carolyn Elizabeth Utsey, and John Patrick Utsey and wife Jackie Joy Vossen Utsey; grandchildren, Kaitlin Adelle Brunson, Jocelyn Mary Utsey and Jasper Patrick Utsey; and adopted son, William Lynn Utsey.

Pat Utsey retired from the U.S. Navy as a chief engineman in 1981, with four tours in Vietnam. He was a jack-of-all trades who made a living as a mechanic, truck driver, equipment operator, welder, manager and teacher. A proud Texan with his cowboy hat, boots, western shirt, and drawl, he loved his family and was proud of their accomplishments. He was generous with his time and skills; he was willing to help anyone.

Services will be held at Riverside Funeral Home on San Mateo Boulevard in Albuquerque at 2 p.m. Dec. 7.

He will be interred in Santa Fe at the National Cemetary at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 9.
