Anthony “Tony” Bobrow

Anthony “Tony” Bobrow, 78, former resident of Teague, was born on June 16, 1939 in Bronx, New York and died at his home in Dallas on Feb. 6, 2018 after a long battle with cancer. Tony moved to Teague at the age of seven to live with his grandparents Fenton and Mattie Smith. He delivered the Dallas Morning News while in high school until he graduated from Teague High School in 1957. He moved to Dallas to work for the Dallas Morning News then worked for Red Ball Motor Freight until he joined the U. S. Navy in 1964 serving on the USS Shangri-La until 1968 when he returned to his job at Red Ball Motor Freight. Tony began working at The Hidden Door bar in 1982 and assumed ownership in 1988. The Hidden Door is now in its 39th year. He was a longtime member of Dallas Tavern Guild and supported many charitable organizations in the LGBT community and opened his business for many fundraisers. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents Eli and Eva Bobrow and sister Gloria Bobrow Lopez. Funeral services for Bobrow were held on Tuesday – Feb. 13, 2018 at First United Methodist Church, in Teague, with the Reverend Steven Diaz, offi ciating. Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery in Teague.
