ALICE MINCHEW

On Thursday, Nov. 18, 2021, Alice Minchew passed away at Skilled Care of Mexia, after a short illness.

Per her request there will be no funeral. Graveside services will be held at the Mart City Cemetery at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27.

Mrs. Minchew was born Sept. 2, 1932, in Teague to Joshua Canady and Izetta Johnson Canady, the sixth daughter of eight. She was married to Kenneth Minchew on Aug. 9, 1949. To this union, five children were born – Carolyn, Johnny, Kay, Dennis and Mark.

Most of her married life was lived in Mart. Alice was a long-time member of First Baptist Church, where she volunteered in the nursery and with the Mother’s Day Out program. While her children were in school, she was a room mother, Band Boosters officer, and served in the PTA from 1957 to 1984. She also took an active role in Little League as a team mother, scorekeeper and coach’s wife while her husband Kenneth coached his three boys’ teams for 17 years.

Preceding her in death were her husband; parents; six sisters, Verina, Maurice, Jackie, Lena Fay, El Norma and Ocha Lee; niece, Patricia; nephew, Norman; granddaughter, Teri; daughter-in-law, Amanda; and great-granddaughter, Macy.

Survivors include sons, Mark, Johnny, Dennis (and wife Debbie); daughters, Kay Wester and Carolyn McGilvray (and husband Bernard);11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sister, Carol Ann Bowers; and many nieces and nephews.
