ROBERT (BOB) MEHL

Robert (Bob) Mehl, 95, passed away Saturday, March 19, 2022, at his residence in Teague.

There will be no services.

Robert Walker Mehl Jr. was born Jan. 14, 1927, in Nelsonville, Ohio, to parents Goldie and Robert Mehl Sr. He was raised in Ohio and graduated high school in 1944 during World War II. His last two years of high school were spent training to be an aircraft mechanic and upon his graduation, he was sent to Dayton, at the Ohio Air Force Base, to work until he could be drafted. Later he was sent to Florida for basic training; near the end of his basic training he joined the paratroopers. He was sent to New York City to leave for Europe but suddenly the war was over. While he waited to be sent to California to leave for Japan, Japan surrendered so he was sent back to mechanics school m Fort Riley, Kan. Mr. Mehl was honorably discharged from the U.S. in 1946.

Bob moved to Glendale, Calif , and attended Glendale College during the day and worked for California Central Airlines at night. He met and married Dorothy, they moved back to Ohio and he went to work at TWA as a flight engineer. Together they raised two sons, David Mehl of Kansas City, Mo., and Robert (Robin) Mehl III, of Ohio. Sadly, Dorothy passed away from cancer when the boys were young. Bob later met Patsy Ann in Fort Worth and they married in 1977. He retired from TWA in 1986 after 31 years of service to the company. At the time of his retirement he had more than 20,000 flying hours and had visited almost every country in the world. Bob and Patsy Ann moved to Teague where they lived for many years. Mr. Mehl was a Mason for more than 65 years.
