Senior Center News
We all had a very busy but enjoyable week. Our numbers are smaller in the dining room although our attendance is picking back up. I surely understand and agree with those who choose to stay home a little longer, our goal is for our friends at the center to maintain good health and stay safe. Naturally I miss you all, and pray for you.
Thanks to Leslie Root for the delicious two dozen blueberry and banana cupcakes last week. Yum!!! A special thanks to Lynda Red for the awesome applesauce/ pecan cake. She enjoys baking and we enjoy eating! Ha! An extra big thank you goes out to Mrs. Betty Trask from First Assembly of God Church in Teague for the sweetly “wrapped with Love! Goodie Blessing Bags” she provided to us for our homebounds on Rt 1 and Rt 2 last week. Thanks to our volunteer drivers Lynda Red, Danny Allen, and John and Vicki Cheek for delivering them.
We so appreciate and were thrilled with the great assortment of edible gift bags furnished by Mr. Arnold Blair of Skilled Care of Mexia. We blessed those at the table that day.
We will try to start bingo back after Labor Day. We appreciate Steve Senter so much for coming to our rescue this week both Monday and Wednesday while other scheduled volunteer drivers were out of state!
We also are missing Margaret Bell in both the kitchen and the dining room at the Center. Thanks to all of those who stepped up to surprise Brenda McQueen, one of our favorite regulars, with a great birthday celebration Monday, Aug. 24th. We surprised her with cake, ice cream, gifts and cards; not to mention our melodious song.
We will be closed in observance of Labor Day on Monday, Sept.7th.
We had one other August birthday girl, Archie May Brooke, Roger’s mother who was 94 years young on August 20th. Archie May is currently in Rehab at Teague Nursing and Rehab. She is an extraordinary, and amazing, strong woman.
Continue to pray for her. Her son Roger, myself, and one of her nieces, Sandra Brooke of Teague and a great niece, Lisa Teer Campbell, from Bullard visited her at the window. We were able to share cupcakes, cards and gifts through the nursing staff and Activity Director, Doris Williams. She also received belated phone calls from her grandchildren and great grandchildren.Thank You to Teague Nursing and Administration for your sweet and professional personal care you show to her.
Remember to pray and support the Staff and Students atTISD as well as surrounding counties. Let us never forget our Men and women in.the Military.
Thank You and God Bless You,
Vonda Brooke
