Whatʼs in a name

What’s in a name? Have you ever thought about that? Many books have been written on the meaning of names. What about the meaning of your name? Why did your parents give you the name they gave you? What does your name mean? I know there’s a thousand answers to those questions, and I don’t mean to get you upset you know, like Johnny Cash’s song, “My Name is Sue,” and that person was a guy! But my name is Mark, a derivation of the name “Marcus” The name Marcus means “mighty warrior.” In Latin, it means “a large hammer!” How about that? There was a Roman statesman named Marcus Aurelius who also was a Roman military leader, way back in the day. I think he also became one of their emperors. Anyway, it’s a strong name. Of course, we also think about Mark, who became one of Apostle Paul’s disciples and church leaders. This same Mark was also the author of the Gospel by the same name. Did you know his book was the first Gospel written? It even served as a source for the Gospels of Matthew and Luke.
