Voters pass 9-of-10 amendments

Fairfield bond fails

With 10 potential Texas constitutional amendments on the ballot Tuesday, voters throughout Freestone County and the state made themselves heard.

Nine of the 10 passed in both the Freestone County and statewide vote, with 94 percent of state voters reported at press time.

Proposition 1, which would permit a person to hold more than one office as a municipal judge at the same time, failed to pass in the county by a total of 399 votes (62.34 percent) against to 241 votes

(37.55 percent) for the proposition. The proposition failed in the statewide vote as well, with 66.07 percent giving a “No” placement.

The rest of the propositions were easier to pass, with the remaining ballot propositions passing with at least 57 percent of the Freestone County vote. The state vote mostly aligned with the county vote, with the remaining nine amendments being approved statewide.
