Virus cases confirmed in county, active number at six

A county directive issued by Freestone County Judge Linda Grant on Tuesday relayed the news of a new confirmed case of COVID-19 in the county.

Gaining information from state sources, including the Department of State Health Services (DSHS), the directive stated that there is one new case in the Teague area, increasing the total positive case number in Freestone to 16.

The directive comes after a previously-released statement by Grant on June 12, which acknowledged four additional confirmed county cases.

As of Tuesday, the active case number for the county is at six, with two active cases in Wortham, two active in Teague, one active in Fairfield, and one active in the Fairfield area.

DSHS currently shows eight active cases on its COVID-19 dashboard. Of the eight cases, the directive says, one case from April remains on the board as active, due to not being able to locate the individual for confirmation on a recovery.
