TPD officer Cox receives suspension

The fate of Teague Police Officer Markeisha Cox’s job was on the line during a special called meeting of the Teague City Council Friday afternoon. Every seat was filled and all there riveted to the proceedings before them.

Officer Cox was facing possible disciplinary action or even dismissal due to a complaint against her in response to an incident taking place Oct. 17.

The meeting began with words from the public.

Former Teague Police Chief Dan Ramsey spoke on behalf of Officer Cox.

“I was the one that hired Markeisha and I brought her on,” Ramsey said. “She is an excellent officer and to lose her would be an injustice to the community.”

Ramsey added that there are many areas that could be addressed in this situation.

“Is this a training issue?” he asked. “If it is, then try to address it in that manner. I hope you will dig deep into your heart before you make a decision and think of, not only, the type of officer she is, but the kind of person she is.”
