THS students presents Awareness Awaits program at TASB-WGLS seminar

Each year the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) holds the Winter Governance and Legal Seminar (WGLS) and this year marked the 21st year. This seminar is by invitation only and students from Teague High School were invited to attend. Marcus Williams said, “I thought it was great that we were invited and was looking forward to it. Then I found out they were presenting our suicide awareness project.” Marcus said that he was thinking of an idea to do for school and he thought about teen suicide and came up with the title of Awareness Awaits. “I thought we could present it in the school assembly,” said Marcus. “I didn’t think about something as big as the TASB seminar.”

The WGLS was held over three days March 1 - 3 and is attended by approximately 1,500 Texas Public School officials. The students who helped Marcus develop his project on suicide awareness also attended the seminar. They are Mychal Shed, Katlin Bodine, Ashlyn Hayworth. THS Student Council sponsor, Gayle Waldrip and THS Superintendent, Chris Skinner, attended the event with the students.
