Teague schools shut down to combat flu outbreak
Students and faculty received an unexpected four-day weekend in Teague ISD, as the district shut down all campuses due to a high number of flu cases in the area.
During school on Nov. 6-7, faculty noticed an abnormally large amount of absences, hovering around 10 percent of the student population. Typically, 97 percent of students or more is expected for every day school attendance.
TISD administrative officials received several phone calls from parents and deduced flu was the issue, according to TISD Superintendent Chris Skinner, and decided to close schools Nov. 8 and Nov. 11. Several faculty were also out during the week.
