Roads closed, people rescued Monday
Several county roads are closed and high-water rescues were performed in the early morning hours of Monday, Nov. 12, by area firemen after a line of heavy thunderstorms swept through the area. According to local “weatherman” Barney Leach, approximately 3.52 inches of rain was received at his home west of Fairfield. Teague VFD reported to three rescues around 3:30 a.m. Monday morning. The first occurred on the I-45 service road, while the other two rescues were made at the railroad underpass on U.S. 84 West in Teague. In a Facebook post, TVFD said the victim was found sitting on top of his car on the service road where he was stranded in high water with a moderate current. Two individuals were saved from the railroad underpass. Pct. 1 Commissioner Andy Bonner closed County Road 520 until further notice after a man reported the wooden bridge washed away in the storm.
