Parks takes second in State Championship

Bekah Parks finished second in the 220-pound weight class at the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association (THSWPA) State Championships in Waco on Friday.

The Teague High School student hoisted a total of 1,035 pounds. That trailed only state champion Taylor Strmiska of Little River Academy, who lifted 1,355 pounds.

Parks tied with Sabrina Gonzales of Dimmitt with her 1,035-pound total. However, Parks earned second place because she weighed less than Gonzales. Parks weighed in at 203 pounds and Gonzales weighed 210. Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association rules state that if two lifters are tied, the one who weighs less shall be given the higher place.
