No new COVID cases reported in area schools

After two weeks of no new reported cases of COVID-19 in area schools, no new student cases and only a single staff case was reported for the week of February 28.

The low numbers coincide with an executive order from Texas Governor Greg Abbott rescinding the state-required mask mandate.

However, school districts must make their own decisions now about whether to require students and staff to wear masks at school.

The single positive reported case was at Mexia High School. Cases are defined as any staff member or student who participates in any on-campus activity who is test-confirmed positive for COVID-19 of which a public school is notified.
