Nearly 25 percent of ballots cast in FreeCo

Freestone County Clerk Linda Jarvis reports a “very large early voting turnout” so far, with approximately 3,000 registered voters, or 24.5 percent of the county total, casting their ballots as of Monday at 5 p.m.

Additionally, the Clerk’s office has received 723 applications requesting a ballot by mail, a number that is far above normal, Mrs. Jarvis said, though she didn’t estimate by how much.

Early voting started Tuesday, Oct. 13 and runs through Friday, Oct. 30. Applications for ballot by mail in Freestone County must be received (not postmarked) no later than the close of business on Oct. 23 in the office of Freestone County Clerk Linda Jarvis, who is also the Early Voting Clerk may be rejected.

Recently, some politicians have put out a call for poll watchers to guard against malfeasance at voting places, and though the laws and guidelines vary from state to state, Texas has very specific rules about who can and cannot be a poll watcher, what they are and are not allowed to do, and the necessary process to earn the designation.
