Near-record rain falls into June
Freestone County rainfall approached record levels last month, and the precipitation continues the first week of June as pasture grass soaks it up and local stock tanks top out.
“May 2021 checked out in its final hours on May 31 with 6.17 inches of rain, bringing the total of the month to 12.92 inches,” said Barney Leach of Fairfield, former co-op weather volunteer for the National Weather Service and former weather volunteer for Channel 8 in Dallas, Channel 10 in Waco and the local radio station.
“We had a total of 13 days with measurable rainfall for a near-record wet May,” he said. “Normal May rainfall for Freestone County is 5.46 inches.”
