Lots of ‘Good Ones’

Teague teacher takes home Golden Mic as top local talent in Navarro fundraiser

Seven singers went head-to-head Friday night and one came out the winner – although actually they all were winners in the sense that they were already at the top of their game and put in the time and effort to raise money for scholarships for Navarro College South students.

The event, Legacy: A New Voice, was held at the Groesbeck Convention Center Friday evening, June 11.

Revendy Rhodes was the master of ceremonies, and he kept up a humorous, teasing banter with the judges, Mexia City Manager Eric Garretty; Navarro College Foundation Treasurer Debbie Wilson; and former Mexia mayor, rancher and businessman Arthur “Chunky” Busby.

The winner of the contest was Teague fourth-grade teacher Carrie Crutcher, performing “The Good Ones,” which tells the story of woman having a good man she describes as “one of the good ones.” At the end of the show, Crutcher was presented the Golden Mic Award.
