Lions to face Eagles, Goats in new district

Teague won’t be in a district with a defending state champion, but things won’t get any easier for the Lions, according to the University Interscholastic League (UIL) alignment which was announced Monday morning.

The Lions will play in the six-team District 8-3A, Division I, competing against Groesbeck, Fairfield, Malakoff, Kemp and Eustace.

Teague had been in a district with two-time defending state champ Grandview and Whitney. And while those two teams have moved into other districts, the Lions will have to face Malakoff and Fairfield. Malakoff was the state runner-up in 2018 and Fairfield was ranked in the top 10 in Class 4A during part of the 2019 campaign.

“We have some top teams in the district again,” Teague coach Donnie Osborn said. “We got rid of Grandview and Whitney and picked up Malakoff and Fairfield. I think the top two teams in that (district) group are Malakoff and Fairfield. They’ll both be really good. The rest of us are a step below them right now, being honest.
