Ielati honored by board of aldermen for saving brother

Samuel “Sammy” Ielati was honored with a proclamation at the City of Teague board of aldermen meeting on Monday evening, for saving the life of his two-year-old brother, Paxton Ielati.

Sammy demonstrated great bravery and quick thinking through the rescue of his brother who had drowned and was unresponsive on Thursday, May 28. Sammy was a senior at Teague ISD and just seven days prior to the incident had attended the annual Teague ISD senior’s CPR and Stop the Bleed classes, sponsored by the Teague Hospital District EMS and Parkview Regional Hospital.

“Sammy’s heroic and quick response saved his brother’s life. Sammy found his brother unresponsive, not breathing and pulseless. He immediately began CPR and was successfully able to resuscitate his brother,” City of Teague Mayor James Monks said.“On behalf of the citizens of Teague, I do hereby recognize with respect and gratitude, Sammy Ielati for saving the life of his two-year-old brother, Paxton Ielati.”
