Freestone County added to FEMA disaster declaration

Freestone County is part of a second wave of Texas counties approved for individual assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency though a Major Disaster Declaration, which makes available grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help recover from the effects of last week’s winter storm.

Most of the damage in the county was caused by extended power outages, water disruptions and building damages from burst pipes.

A county-wide text message went out early Monday evening notifying residents that Freestone County was approved for individual assistance programs, and providing a link to www.disasterassistance.gov.

“Please know Freestone County has no control or influence over the process or final decisions that are made,” the message added, then urged recipients to contact FEMA at 1-800-621-3362 for answers to any questions.
