Freestone cities struggling in sales tax revenue

Freestone County’s two largest cities are down in sales tax revenue they will receive from Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar for June, but its two smaller towns are well into the black.

Hegar announced Wednesday, June 6, that he will send a total of $710.4 million to Texas cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts in local sales tax returns for June, an increase of 11 percent over June of last year. These figures are based on April sales reported in May.

The amount to be received by Texas cities alone is $456,955,590; an increase of a little over 10 percent over the comparable payment last June of $415,173,711.
