Staff Reports
Freestone County cities earned significant tax allocations in February, compared to last year, according to the Texas comptroller.
These allocations are based on sales made in December by businesses that report tax monthly. If a city has a sales-tax rate of 8.25%, the state keeps 6.25% of the sales and sends back to the city the remaining 2%. All Limestone County cities tax at 8.25%, except Coolidge and Thornton, which tax at 7.25%. They receive 1% allocation from the state.
