Commissioners appoint an emergency management coordinator

The future of Freestone County emergency management was discussed during the regular meeting of Freestone County Commissioner’s Court on Feb. 19.

Commissioners unanimously approved a motion appointing Monte Atchley in an Emergency Management Coordinator position for the county. Atchley will be working closely with local hospitals, fire departments, and other emergency services to develop plans for potential county catastrophes. Weather-related disasters were brought up as a priority, with Judge Linda Grant commenting on past events such as tornadoes ravaging the county.

While no position is currently budgeted for the position, Atchley will start off as a part-time employee, with potential expansion of the job if needed. His appointment was effective as of Feb. 20.
