Commissioners to apply for election tech funding

In a regular meeting of Freestone County Commissioner’s Court June 3, the court approved of a resolution that could pay off for future elections.

Commissioners approved a resolution to apply for a grant from the Help America Vote Act (HAVA), which would provide funding for the 2020 federal election cycle.

Increased HAVA funds have been made available to states through the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2020, signed into law on Dec. 20, 2019.

The funds assist in enhancing technology and election security. Texas received an award from the funding in the amount of $31,436,645.
