2021 proposed county budget, tax rate discussed

Freestone County Commissioners continued their discussion on the county’s 2020-21 Fiscal Year budget this past week, with a proposed budget available to view on the county’s website.

The proposed budget, for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2021, is based on a tax rate of .393751 per $100 valuation.

At the July 30 meeting, commissioners unanimously voted for a proposed tax rate of .409 per $100 valuation, the same figure as the 2020 fiscal year. Commissioners will vote on the tax rate, as well as adopt the 2021 budget, during their Aug. 19 meeting.

During budget discussion, the topic of the county’s voting system for upcoming elections, such as November’s general election, was broached.
