A ‘New Voice’ is chosen

Wortham worship leader wins the Legacy singing competition; Avi Hughes, runner-up

Close to 250 well-wishers gathered at the Groesbeck Convention Center Saturday night, Feb. 29, for Navarro College’s Legacy scholarship fundraiser, and the night saw contestant Curtis Ray, of Wortham, walk away with top honors. Ray won the singing contest held among six area performers. The entrants had their chance of winning sweetened by votes from supporters at $5 a pop, an opportunity that began Jan. 8. The winner was selected through a combination of 50 percent votes and 50 percent judges’ scores.
