‘Back in the Saddle Again’

Parade kicks off fair; action continues through Saturday

The Freestone County Fair celebrated being “Back in the Saddle Again” Monday night with a parade through downtown Fairfield and will continue through Saturday with livestock shows, a midway carnival, rodeos, and a youth livestock sale.

Grand Marshal of the parade was Pat Robertson, known throughout the community as Miss Pat or Nurse Pat. Miss Pat served the people of Fairfield and Freestone County as a nurse for 58 years, working with Dr. J. H. Keller and Dr. Joe Crossno at the hospital and clinic, then serving as Dr. Keller’s nurse and assistant for over 50 years, until they both retired in 2010.

Floats were judged at the parade as well, and the “Most Creative” entry award went to the 14-ft. vehicle entry from Wood Chucks Sawmill.

The “Most Beautiful” award went to Miss Aggieland USA Peyton Daniels, who rode atop a two-door convertible. The Texas A&M Junior will represent College Station at the Miss Texas USA competition on Labor Day Weekend.
