Two former NFL players are providing critical supplies and nutritional needs to area school districts, just in time for the STAAR tests.

The All-STAAR Backpack Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that began in the Fairfield area and continues to serve the surrounding area.

“We donate backpacks, bottled water, snacks, school supplies and meal coupons

to select schools during the state-required STAAR testing during the month of

April,” said Jason Smith, co-founder with Tony Brackens Jr. “Knowing that, in the state of Texas, kids are at a lower socio-economic status.”

The Smith With Brackens Youth Foundation is currently seeking sponsors for the annual project. Brackens Jr. and Smith, both formerly National Football League players, joined together to create the SWB Foundation. The duo wanted to give back to the community, with Brackens a graduate of Fairfield ISD and Smith joining the Fairfield community, Smith said.
