Observances: “Never bet against America, you’ll lose”

In the movie Shooter the old gunsmith tells the Mark Walberg character, “Just when you think you’ve got it all figured out, you’re wrong”. When we watch the 24-hour news channels often we are looking at the trees and it’s in no one’s interest for us to back up and look at the forest because then we will start thinking for ourselves.

From the time of Jesus birth until the year 1776 economists estimate the world GNP doubled. Now it doubles approximately every 40 years. In the last doubling, hundreds of millions of people were able to escape poverty. Yet caught in the forest thickets of news sensationalism and provocative chatter, the majority of Americans believe we are living in the old Hee Haw saying, “gloom despair and agony on me, if it weren’t for bad luck would not have any luck at all”.
