Do you have the desire to tell the truth and to share someone’s story?

When I was a junior in high school my English teacher told me I would never have a profession in the field of writing. I believed him – that was until someone told me different.

I don’t know what happened. It just did. In the fall of 2012 I was asked if I could write sports stories. I said, “Sure, why not.” And so it began. That was while I lived in Edna.

Early the following year I was offered a full-time job in Cuero as a staff reporter to cover DeWitt County. The publisher, Glenn Rhea, and his news director, Elizabeth Rodriguez, taught me everything from writing hard news, covering government meetings, writing feature stories and improving my skills with the camera. They kept things simple and allowed me to learn by trial and error.
