Raul Cuevas , Sr .

A funeral Mass for Raul Cuevas, Sr., 74, took place Saturday, May 18, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Teague.

Father Kevin Young officiated. Interment followed the services at Greenwood Cemetery.

Mr. Cuevas passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas after battling Leukemia since 2004.

He was born in El Mezquite, Zacatecas, Mexico, on November 12, 1944, but grew up in Guadalajara, Jalisco.

Mr. Cuevas served in the Selective Service in Mexico. He married Juana Araujo on October 11, 1970, and shared over forty-eight years of marriage together.

Mr. Cuevas moved to Teague in 1976 and worked at the Teague Brick Plant.

He later worked for Lide Tank Co. and TXI for several years before retiring and then re-hiring back for a few more years. Mr. Cuevas loved baseball and was an excellent pitcher in his youth in Mexico.

He also enjoyed dancing and spending time with his family.

Mr. Cuevas was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Teague.

He is survived by his wife, Juana Cuevas of Teague; five children, Mary Cuevas and husband Mario of Corsicana; Raul Cuevas and Amanda of Lorena, Juan Cuevas and wife Magda, Elizabeth Hernandez and husband Mateo, and Jesse Cuevas and wife Melissa all of Teague; fifteen grandchildren, Danielle Allen, Frankie Jimenez, Jacob Jimenez, Jessica Cuevas, Markcus Cuevas, Diego Cuevas, Madison Cuevas, Vanesa Cuevas, Stephanie Cuevas, Malenie Cuevas, Frey Hernandez, Luis Hernandez, Anna Hernandez, Kaylee Cuevas, and Mario Cuevas; three sisters; ten brothers; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

His parents, Federico and Andrea Cuevas, preceded Mr. Cuevas in death.
