Peter George Jokola

Peter George Jokola passed away, September 14, 2017, at his home in Mexia at the age of 74. A memorial service was held at the Mexia VFW on Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at 2 PM. Peter was born August 14, 1943 in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania to Peter and Helen Krivokucha Jokola. He was a professional musician, rancher, worked for a petroleum company for several years and owned a sandblasting company, prior to retirement. Peter’s love for music and singing began at a very young age, and eventually lead to a career. He made numerous records and traveled all over the world singing; he could sing in 20 different languages. During this time, like most young artist, he sowed a few wild oats prior to settling down. While living in California, he met a man from the Mexia area that wanted to sell his ranch in Honest Ridge, Peter bought it sight unseen, as he was ready for a change in his life. He enjoyed raising cattle and all that went with farming and country living. He was also an avid golfer. Peter had an outgoing personality and made friends wherever he went. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Evie Rapaich and Dorothy Hewlefon. Peter is survived by his significant other, Nancy Margaret Morrow of Mexia; daughter, Mia Lynn Doig of California; four grandchildren; brother, Bob Jokola; and longtime friend, Sandra Leggett.
