JAMES DAVID HULLUM (DAVID)

James David Hullum (David), of Whitney, TX, passed away on Aug. 12, 2020 at his home after a short battle with cancer. He was born in Teague, TX on Oct. 8, 1942, to Everett and Thelma (Jones) Hullum. He is survived by his spouse, Harriett (Campbell) Hullum, children Laurie (Hullum) Andrews & husband Paul of Augusta, KS., Amanda Hullum of Conroe, TX., Ronnie Ramin & wife Amy of Fort Worth, TX., Sean Kypke & wife Heidi of Corpus Christi, TX., and Heather Janek of El Campo, TX. He is also survived by his brothers Gordon Everett Hullum Jr. (wife Shirley) of Stephenville, TX., Leroy Hullum (wife Jeannette) of Willis, TX., and Glenn Hullum (wife Deborah) of Lake Mexia, TX., as well as numerous grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Billy Joe Hullum.

David graduated Teague High School in 1961 and went on to serve in the Navy during the Vietnam War, from which he received an honorable discharge in 1966. Throughout his life, David worked at several energy and utility companies as foreman or in other supervisory capacities. He also owned and ran a bar/restaurant in Matagorda, TX., where he lived after retiring, until 2013, when he made his home in Whitney.

A fun-loving individual with a wry sense of humor, David was beloved by those who knew him. He played a mean game of poker and grilled the best steak imaginable. He also lived out selfless devotion, as the sole caretaker to his beloved wife who suffered a debilitating stroke. He did this for 14 years, up until just a couple of months before his death.

David will be sorely missed by his family and friends. A memorial service was held in his honor Sept. 20 at 2 p.m. at the Redwood Lodge in Whitney, TX.
