GERALD LEE HORTON

Funeral services for Gerald Lee Horton, 75, will be held on Thursday, Oct.24, at 2 p.m. at Eighth Avenue Baptist Church. Brother Roy Prather will officiate and Brother Shawn Sifford and Brother Paul Pryor will also speak. Interment will follow the service at Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be held prior to the services on Thursday, before moving to the church, from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Bowers Funeral Home. There will be no visitation on Wednesday.

Mr. Horton passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2019, at his residence near Teague.

He was born in Teague on July 18, 1944, and lived in Teague all of his life. Gerald married Rebecca Dianne Long on April 24, 1964, and shared more than 55 years of marriage together. Mr. Horton was known for being a hard and skilled worker mainly as a mechanic and equipment operator. He worked for Leon’s Garage and spent 13 years working for the railroad before working for many years until his retirement for the City of Teague where he earned his municipal water license and ran the city water department as well as running a maintainer and other jobs. Mr. Horton also took care of Greenwood Cemetery in Teague for many years. In his spare time, he had a love for wildlife and enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially squirrel hunting, and he loved spending time with his family. Mr. Horton was a member of Eighth Avenue Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Dianne Horton of Teague; one daughter, DeLinda Palos and husband James of Corsicana; one son, Brian Horton and wife Crystal of Teague; five grandchildren, Brandy Jones and husband Stan of Teague, Jacob Palos and wife Taitum, Joseph Palos, Case Horton, and Leynie Horton; six great-grandchildren, Addie Jones, Maddox Palos, Brooke Jones, Leilah Palos, Harrison Jones, and Lexie Palos; one step-brother, Paul McNutt of Weatherford; other relatives and friends.

Mr. Horton was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Michelle Deneo Horton; his father, Milton Claude Horton; his mother, Velma Estelle McNutt; and his step-father, Alvis Lee McNutt.
