Next week’s Freestone County Fair broiler show will see the return of Teague FFA members and brothers Austin and Cole Mims for their fifth year of competition, with both hoping to bring home a championship from the Thursday morning event.
The sense of security and safety felt by many rural residents of Leon County was shattered last month after the escape of and subsequent search for convicted murderer Gonzalo Lopez in the Centerville area. When five bodies were discovered – suspected to have been slain by Lopez – Thursday, June 2, in their weekend house less than a mile from Centerville off State Highway 7, the desecration of serenity was complete.
Although the Freestone County Commissioners have been satisfied with the service that the Texas Association of Counties Health and Employee Benefits Pool has provided over the past 20 years, they are balking at the organization’s decision to raise rates 5.%.
Bettye Trask, well-known in Freestone County because of her involvement in helping people of all ages in so many ways, resides in her hometown of Fairfield. She is the wife of the Rev. Spain E. Trask who is the pastor of the Assembly of God Church in Teague. Bettye also is an ordained minister.
Golden light made the orange graduation gowns glow as the Teague High School Class of 2022 filled the field at Lion Stadium Friday evening, May 27, as family and friends watched proudly from the sidelines and the bleachers.
