Teague cheerleaders try out in absentia
Teague ISD teachers have shown concern and care for students no longer attending school in person due to the COVID-19 crisis. From preparing and providing meals for students that depend on it for nutrition, to showing support via parade and online videos, teachers are missing their pupils in the classroom setting.
Distance did not stop cheerleader tryouts, however, with Cheer Sponsor April Welch and Julie Smith judging video submitted by those trying out, often from home.
“We did what is called virtual tryouts,” said Welch. “They each made four videos and submitted them to a google doc that I submitted to the judges.”
Welch coaches the junior varsity and varsity cheer squad, while Smith mentors the junior high cheerleaders. Judges consisted of varsity members.
