Nealy remembers...She was there
The legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King will be celebrated on Monday, Jan. 15, with a federal holiday. The Civil Rights activist is credited for spearheading the fight for people of his own race but also people of all races who were being treated unfairly.
Due to Dr. King’s deep interest in Mahatma Gandhi and his philosophy of non-violence, King spoke to his followers about gaining more from peaceful protests rather than violence. Unfortunately the protesters met with terrible violence during the fight for equality.
His goal was for all Americans to be treated equally. Dr. King’s most memorable event was the “March on Washington” where he gave his “I Have a Dream” speech. This is one of the most famous protests in history.
