Commissioners vote to add drug, alcohol testing policy to employee handbook
Following the advice of County Attorney Brian Evans, commissioners voted to add a drug and alcohol testing policy to the employee handbook. Several weeks ago Texas Association of Counties (TAC) suggested adding a policy regarding employees who ask for help with a drug or alcohol abuse problem.
Evans suggested, based on discussions with TAC and his own research, the county add the following:
“Any employee who admits to drug use may be terminated. An employee who voluntarily asks for time off to get treatment and recover from a drug or alcohol abuse problem will be given protections as required by law
