Weighty Words for Young Wordsmiths

Summer is here and kids are at home. Many are playing games, watching television, or just idling. This would be an excellent time for them to learn and start practicing new words.

The increase in a child’s vocabulary is a proud development for both the child and the parent. After a while, however, we seem to take such growth for granted and efforts to continue gaining new words are left to school and life in general. Why are new and more powerful words important to a young reader and student? Because they will be evaluated on their ability to speak, write and use “weighty” words in both their academic and professional careers.
