Headlee House on Christmas Tour of Homes

THE HEADLEE HOUSE will be one of the featured homes on the Teague Christmas Tour of Homes for 2008. Dr. Emmet Headlee was the first of many outstanding citizens of Teague and built this house in 1906. It remained in the Headlee family until 2001 when it was purchased by the current owners Richard and Tracy Doggett. Don't miss seeing this and the other homes on the Teague Christmas Tour of Homes 2008 that were part of the history of Teague. The Tour is set for Saturday, December 6th, beginning at 4:00 p.m., at the B-RI Railroad and Historical Museum. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children and are on sale at The Grille, The Teague Chronicle and at the museum the night of the tour.
- The Teague Christmas Tour of Homes for 2008 is very proud to have the oldest home on record in Teague. It is the home of Dr. Emmet Headlee.

The Headlee House was built in 1906 in Brewer Prairie, which became Teague that very year. Dr. Headlee was the builder and was born in 1848, the son of a Methodist preacher and also a Confederate Army surgeon in the civil was as was his father and grandfather.

Dr. Headlee came to Texas in 1866. He was a pillar of the Teague Community as a planter, church leader, Brewer's first postmaster, a civic leader, peace officer, banker, druggist, school trustee, a Mason, and a citizen who influenced railroad building in Teague.

Many descendants of Dr. Headlee have lived in this home through the years. At one time it was Teague's only hospital and was recorded a Texas Historic Landmark in 1965.

The Headlee House is, for the first time ever, owned by someone outside of the Headlee family. Richard and Tracy Doggett purchased the home in October of 2001 from Rebecca Lancaster who was a great-great granddaughter of Emmet Headlee. At this time, the Doggett family have decided to move to Dallas and the home is for sale. Come and see this beautiful historic home and enjoy the entertainment and Christmas cheer with all of the citizens of Teague.

The Teague Christmas Tour of Homes 2008 is set for Saturday, December 6th, adults $10 and children $5, with tickets available at The Grille and The Teague Chronicle.
