ALICE MAE VERNON MORTON


Mrs. Alice Morton, 70, of Fairfield, Texas, passed away on Monday, February 25, 2008, at Fairfield East Texas Medical Center among devoted family.

Funeral services for Mrs. Morton were held on Saturday, March 1, 2008, at First Baptist Church in Fairfield, Texas.

Elder Anthony Taylor, Sr. officiated and interment was at Shiloh Cemetery in Fairfield.

Mrs. Morton was born in Freestone County, Texas to Eli Vernon, Sr. and Alma Brown Vernon. She completed her public school education in the Freestone County schools. Mrs. Morton was a member of the St. Hill Church Of God In Christ and was Mother of the Church as well as the church treasurer. She loved gardening and had a passion for flowers.

Preceding Mrs. Morton in death are her parents, her sister Ollie Gibson and her great grandchildren Jai Alyce and Ashton Ty.

Surviving Mrs. Morton is her devoted husband Frank Everette Morton, Sr.; her sons Everette Morton of Fort Worth, Wayne Morton, Sr. and wife Fannettie of Dallas, Frank Everette Morton, Jr. and wife Muriel of Fairfield, Robert Morton and wife Dale of Fairfield, Reggie Morton, Sr. of Fairfield; her daughters Ruby Gatson and husband Tyree, Jr. of Fairfield, Cynthia Jarmon and husband Billie, Jr. of Grand Prairie, Alma McShan of Fairfield and Sarah Morton of Fairfield. Her brothers Willis Jerry Vernon and wife Dorothy of Fort Worth and Eli Vernon, Jr. and wife Clydell of Fort Worth; her sister Mary Lampkin of Waco; her aunt Ora B. Tippens of Fort Worth; 22 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive Mrs. Morton.

Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

CECIL SMITHERMAN


Funeral services for Mr. Cecil Smitherman, 73, were held on Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at Corinth Baptist Church in Dew, Texas.

Bro. Paul Pryor and Bro. Carl Clark officiated and interment followed the services at Dew Cemetery.

Mr. Smitherman passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2008, at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco. He was born and raised in the Buffalo area and attended Buffalo schools.

Mr. Smitherman married Nila Long on August 18, 1951, and shared over fifty-six years together. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for thirty years and also was a commercial truck driver for many years.

He loved to spend time working and building things in his shop. Mr. Smitherman was a dedicated family man and always took good care of his family. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Buffalo.

Mr. Smitherman is survived by his wife Nila Long Smitherman of Lanely; his daughter Cecelia Joy Wells and husband Samuel of Cold Spring; his sons Michael D. Smitherman and wife Katheryn of Livingston, Steven G. Smitherman and wife Robin of Midlothian and Gary L. Smitherman and wife Karen of Humble. His grandchildren Rhonda, Jeff, Amanda, Jason, Jennifer, David, Keri, Katelyn, Trevor, Jared and Craig; eight great grandchildren; his sisters Buna Pruett of Jewett, Josie Price of Dew and Opal Barnett of Franklin; his brothers Frank Martin of Buffalo and Leroy Martin of Milan, New Mexico; numerous other relatives and friends also survive Mr. Smitherman.

He was preceded in death by his parents Garland and Eva Smitherman and his daughter Sharon Kay Smitherman.

MILDRED MILLER YIELDING


Funeral services for Mrs. Mildred Miller Yielding, 92, were held on Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague, Texas. Interment followed the services at Union Cemetery near Freestone.

Mrs. Yielding was born and raised in Freestone. She attended the Freestone School and lived almost all of her life in Freestone. Mrs. Yielding was a farmer and rancher for all of her adult life and she also worked for the Mexia State School for eleven years before retiring in 1979, but her chosen career was taking care of her family. She married Leonard Yielding in 1932 and shared some forty-three years together before being separated by his death in 1975.

Mrs. Yielding was a member of the Freestone Baptist Church for almost fifty years and a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church for several years earlier.

She is survived by her daughters Charlsie Stirton and husband Don of Freestone and Sylvia Leath and husband Jack of Waco; her son Leonard Don Yielding and wife Elizabeth of West Monroe, Louisiana; her grandchildren Donna Stirton Williams of San Antonio, Chris Yielding of San Francisco, California, Amy Colvin of Ruston, Louisiana, Charles Leonard Yielding of Fort Worth, Jeni Yielding of Rockville, Maryland, Julie Braswell of Springdale, Arkansas, Jessica Holland Craft of Temple, Elizabeth Holland Simmons of Georgetown, Cliff Leath of Watauga, Jason Leath of Oakwood and Jeff Leath of Porter; twenty-three great grandchildren; numerous other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Yielding was preceded in death by her husband Leonard Yielding; her brothers Elvin Miller, Lawson Miller and Clayton Miller and her sisters Lola Mae Miller Dailey and Bernell Miller.

SHAWN ALLEN FRYAR


Memorial services celebrating the life of Shawn Allen Fryar, 33, were held on Friday, November 30, 2007, at Addison Funeral Home in Spring, Texas.
Pastor Tierce Green from Fellowship of The Woodlands and Mr. George Hood officiated.

Shawn passed away on November 26, 2007, as a result of a tragic fall from a ladder in Houston, Texas. He was born in Houston, Texas but by choice Shawn spent most of his childhood with his much loved grandparents, Al and Jean Tisdale in Teague and Sam and Hazel Perry in Groesbeck. After he started school, Shawn continued to spend almost every weekend and summer in Teague, rarely letting Granddad slip out of his sight. Shawn was a 1993 graduate of Nimitz High School in Houston, Texas. After graduation, he became involved in transitioning to adulthood in Houston, a somewhat painful process since Granddad and Mim wouldn’t cooperate and move to Houston.

Shawn knew how to live life to the fullest, without fear. He was loyal to his friends, patriotic, and proud of our country and state. Shawn frequently helped acquaintances with whatever they needed, regardless of the financial impact to him. Shawn loved his family with all his heart and would have given his life for them.

Shawn is survived by his wife Cynthia Fryar of Spring; his five year old daughter Rachel Fryar of Spring; his mother Kathy Fryar of Spring and father Leslie Fryar of Riesel; his grandparents Al Tisdale of Teague, Hazel Perry Clark and husband Mike of LaPorte; parents-in-law Albert and Cecile Fake of Houston; his sisters Angela Fogle and Kristi Fryar of Houston; brother-in-law Alan Fake and wife Kimberly of Porter; sister-in-law Cristi Fake of Houston; aunts Debbie Kilgore of Spring, Pam Barrow of Deer Park; uncle Gary Perry and wife Debbie of La Porte; great aunts Nell Winkler and husband Clayton of Killeen, Mary Clark of Dallas, Linda Huffman and husband James of Teague, Sue Nichols of Teague, Jennifer Parson and husband Bobby of Teague, great uncle John Nichols and wife Edna of Teague; numerous cousins, other relatives and special friends (some of whom are now “old men’ from Teague that he still carried in his heart from his days of growing up in Teague).

Shawn was preceded in death by his grandmother Jean Tisdale of Teague; his grandfather Sam Perry of La Porte; great grandmothers Mary Ann Tisdale and Mary Ellen Nichols of Teague and Dovie Stone of Deer Park; great grandfather Granville Tisdale of Streetman; great great grandmother Lillie Dove Miller of Teague.



ELLEN F. (FLO) CORLEY


Funeral services for Mrs. Ellen F. (Flo) Corley, 76, were held on Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague.

Bro. Ed Ridge officiated and interment followed the services at Greenwood Cemetery in Teague.

Mrs. Corley passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2008, at her residence in Teague, Texas. She was born in Palestine, but lived from ages eight through fourteen at the Juliet Fowler Children’s Home in Dallas after the death of her mother.

She learned to play the piano while at the children’s home and also helped care for the younger children and babies in the nursery there. She moved to Teague while in high school and graduated with the Teague High School class of 1948.

She was active in the Teague Lion Band, was a yell leader, and worked on the Orange & White school newspaper.

She married Buddy Corley on June 13, 1950, and shared over forty-five years together before being separated by his death in 1995.

Mrs. Corley worked as an agent for Teague Insurance for many years as well as serving as bookkeeper for her husband’s business. Mrs. Corley loved to go camping, skiing and boating and really loved music and really enjoyed raising her family. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Teague.

Mrs. Corley is survived by her daughter Cindy Fryer and husband John of Fairfield; her son Bill Corley of Teague; her granddaughters Niki Edwards and husband Jon of Waco, Natalie Mabry and husband Mike of Fairfield, and Jessica Corley of Teague; her grandson Christopher Corley of Teague; five great grandchildren Kelton Mabry, Joshua Edwards, Abby Grace Edwards, Kahne Mabry and Cade Corley; her brothers Joel Henson, Jr. of Teague and Robert Henson of Rutheron, New Mexico; her half-brothers Charles Henson and Gary Henson; her half-sister Linda Fick; special friend and neighbor Ruby French of Teague; numerous other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Buddy Corley; her parents, Joel D. and Mary Ellen Henson; her brother Ross Henson; her sister Wanda Jean Henson; and her half-brother Wayne Henson.
